Understanding the Concept of 6 Hats Thinking
In the realm of Project Management and Business Management, various strategies and methodologies are employed to enhance productivity and efficiency. One such methodology is the 6 Hats Thinking.
The 6 Hats Thinking is a tool for group discussion and individual thinking. This concept was developed by Edward de Bono and is described in his book ‘Six Thinking Hats’. The methodology provides a means for groups to plan thinking processes in a detailed and cohesive way, and in doing so to think together more effectively.
The six hats represent six modes of thinking and are directions to think rather than labels for thinking. These are:
- Blue Hat: used to manage the thinking process.
- White Hat: used for considering purely what information is available, what are the facts?
- Red Hat: used to signify feelings, hunches and intuition.
- Black Hat: used for critical judgement.
- Yellow Hat: used for positive judgement.
- Green Hat: used for new ideas and creativity.
